The dealer just quoted me 15k for a new transmission – there has to be a better way

I’m still in a bit of shock after the phone call I just had. I dropped my 2017 Range Rover Sport off at the dealer because it was having some pretty rough shifting between second and third gear, and I was expecting maybe a software update or at worst a valve body replacement. They just called me back and told me the whole transmission needs to be replaced, and the quote they gave me was absolutely eye-watering, I actually had to ask them to repeat it because I thought I misheard. The car has only done about 110,000 kilometers and it’s been serviced regularly, so I’m genuinely struggling to understand how this could happen. I know these ZF 8-speed units are generally bulletproof, which makes me wonder if they’re just trying to upsell me because they don’t actually want to do the repair work. I’ve been doing some frantic research online and it seems like there are specialists who can actually rebuild these transmissions or source quality used units for a fraction of the cost. I really don’t want to sink that kind of money into a car that’s already a few years old, but I also can’t afford to just write it off and buy something new. I think the smart move here is to get a second opinion from a workshop that actually understands Land Rovers and isn’t just going to give me the same dealer spiel. I’ve heard that looking for a Genuine Land Rover Specialist in Abu Dhabi is the way to go because these places often have access to the same diagnostic tools and technical information as the dealer, but without the crazy overheads. Has anyone been through a similar situation with their transmission? I’d love to know if you managed to get it sorted for a reasonable price and where you took it. Also, any advice on what to look out for when getting a second opinion would be massively helpful right now, I’m feeling pretty stressed about the whole thing to be honest.
