Pot volume sets the plant size more than anything else, and jumping from a cup to a 40 litre pot leaves a small plant sitting in wet soil for weeks. Stepping up through one or two sizes, transplanting when roots show at the edge, keeps the growth steady. For a tent with four plants the sizing table on https://potentthcseeds.com suggests 15 to 20 litres for photoperiod THC seeds and 10 for autos, which matches what has worked for me. Bigger is not better once the light footprint is full.
